Before making a decision to undergo back surgery, please consider the following:
1.) MRI results are not necessarily the diagnosis – MRI scans should confirm a suspected diagnosis (sometimes a person has no back pain, but they have MRI scans showing a degenerated disc).
2.) Spine surgery should never be a guess – the spine surgeon should know exactly where and what is causing your pain prior to surgery.
3.) If you undergo back surgery, the actual procedure is not the end. Weeks of rehabilitation and strengthening exercises should follow surgery.
It is very important to educate yourself on your own condition and to make an informed decision regarding the path of treatment you would like to follow.
