Myths About Chiropractic...
We have heard many stories before about how Chiropractic can hurt you or even kill you. Here are some of the things we have heard before:

"Chiropractors can snap my Neck!"
Regardless of what you see in the movies, it is almost impossible to snap a person's neck. Research has shown that the amount of force needed to break a persons neck is equivalent to the force generated in a car accident, when the person is not wearing a seatbelt and the car is travelling at 60km/h. It is impossible for a human being to generate this same amount of force with their hands.
"Don't go to a Chiropractor - They can give you a Stroke!"
Just like treating Cancer or Diabetes, there are risks with Chiropractic treatment and there is a possibility that you could suffer from a stroke. However, here are a few facts you need to know:
  • You have a 1 in 5 chance of dying from a bad reaction to medication compared to a 1 in 5.85 million chance of getting a stroke after Chiropractic treatment.
  • You have a higher risk of getting a storke at the hair salon
  • 80% of strokes can be prevented
  • Chiropractors are trained to determine risk factors before treatment and is therefore an effective and safe treatment method for neck pain and headaches
"Why does Chiropractic Treatment hurt?"
Chiropractic treatment is not a quick fix and you may feel a little tender or bruised in the areas where the Chiropractor has worked on you. Remember, you already have pain and inflammation and it will take time for the body to heal. The pain you feel after treatement is different. It is not as intense as when you first came in and it is more of a discomfort rather than pain.
"Chiropractors only treat Back and Neck Pain"
This is actually not true. Chiropractors can treat different kinds of problems in the muscles, nerves or joints. So what can Chiropractors treat?
  • Migraines, headaches, neck pain
  • Lower back pain, sciatica, pinched nerves
  • Shoulder and arm pain: impingement syndrome, tendonitis, thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Elbow and hand pain: tendonitis of the elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Jaw pain
  • Colic, growing pains
